One of the world’s fastest growing airports, its passenger traffic increased threefold in the 1990s – it served over eight million passengers in the first six months of 2001. Major airlines: Airlines serving the airport include the national airline Aer Lingus (tel: (01) 886 2222; website: www.aerlingus.ie), Air France, Air Malta, Alitalia, British Midland, Lufthansa, Manx Airlines, Ryanair and SAS. Approximate flight times to Dublin: From London is 1 hour; from New York is 6 hours 30 minutes; from Los Angeles is 12 hours; from Toronto is 8 hours 10 minutes (plus transfer) and from Sydney is 24 hours (plus stopover and transfer). Airport facilities: These include a tourist office, bureaux de change, duty-free shopping, bank and currency exchange machines, post office, left-luggage, shops and newsagents, pharmacy, telephones, restaurants, bars and car hire (Avis, Budget, Eurodollar, Hertz and Murrays). Business facilities: The Anna Livia Executive Lounge (tel: (01) 814 4501; website: www.dublin-airport.com) contains a business centre with telephones, fax machines, computer ports and a board room, which is available for hire. Arrival/departure tax: A sum of Ir£4/EUR5, included in the purchase price of the airline ticket, is payable by every passenger flying to or from Dublin airport. Transport to the city: Buses 16, 16A, 16B, 41, 41a, 41b and 41c run to the city centre every 10-20 minutes 0800-2330 (journey time – 40 minutes) and cost Ir£1.15/EUR1.50. The Airlink Express (tel: (01) 873 4222) coach service (numbers 747 and 748) links the airport with the central bus station on Store Street and the two main railway stations, Connolly and Heuston every 10 minutes 0645-2300 (cost: Ir£3.50/EUR4.50; journey time – 25 minutes). Taxis into Dublin cost around Ir£15/EUR19. |
