PASSPORTS: Passport valid for at least three months beyond departure required by all.

VISAS: Required by all except the following:
(a) 1. nationals of EU countries and nationals of Iceland and Norway for stays of up to 90 days within the period of six months (except nationals of the UK and Ireland who may stay for up to 30 days within a six-month period);
Note: UK nationals living overseas do need a visa.
(b) 2. nationals of Andorra, Australia, Canada, Estonia, Israel, Japan, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Switzerland, Vatican City and USA for stays of up to 30 days;
(c) nationals of Croatia, Czech Republic, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Hungary, Korea, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Tunisia and Yugoslavia (Serbia & Montenegro).


Types of visa and cost: Single-entry: £36. Multiple-entry: £63 (six months); £83 (12 months). Express: £46. Transit: £30 (single-entry); £43 (double-entry); from £56 (multiple entry).

Validity: Single-entry visas for tourist visits are normally valid for three months from date of issue for a maximum stay of 30 days. Multiple-entry visas are for business visits and are normally valid for three months from date of issue. Transit visas allow for stays of up to 24 hours. Enquire at the Embassy for further details.

Application to: Consulate (or Consular section at Embassy); see Contact Addresses section. Applications should be made in person or by courier, not by post.

Application requirements: Tourism: (a) Valid passport. (b) Application form. (c) One passport-size photo. (d) Return ticket or documentation for next destination. (e) Fee (payable in cash or by postal order only). (f) UK Resident visa (if applicable). (g) Prepaid tourist vouchers from the travel agency.
Transit: (a)-(f), (g) Proof of sufficient funds, and (h) Visa issued by country of final destination.
Business: (a)-(f) and, (g) Letters from the applicant’s company and from the Bulgarian business partner, endorsed by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce.
Private: (a)-(f) and, (g) A letter of invitation issued by the local authorities in Bulgaria.


Working days required: Normally seven days for single-entry visas and ten days for multiple-entry visas, but processing can take up to two weeks as confirmation has to be received from Sofia for each visa. Express visas take up to five days to be processed and should be applied for in person if resident in the UK.
