PASSPORTS: Passport valid for two months after date of departure required by all.

VISAS: Required by all except the following for a stay of up to 90 days:
(a) nationals of EU countries;
(b) nationals of Andorra, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hong Kong (SAR),Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Monaco, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, USA and Vatican City;
(c) transit passengers continuing their journey by the same or first connecting aircraft, provided holding onward or return documentation and not leaving the airport, except citizens of: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Iran, Congo (Dem Rep), Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia and Sri Lanka who must obtain an airport transit visa.


Note: 1. Nationals of Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Korea (Rep), Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, San Marino, Singapore, South Africa, Uruguay and Venezuela require visas, and are entitled to apply for them on arrival (only at Riga Airport). Nationals from some of the above countries in possession of either a Latvian, Lithuanian or Estonian visa may travel directly between these countries without acquiring further visas.

Types of visa and cost: Tourist: £7/£14/£28 (single-entry); £12/£24/£48 (double-entry). Single-entry business: £7/£14/£28 (duration dependent on invitation). Multiple-entry business: £17/£34/£68 (duration dependent on invitation); £28/£56/£112 (for six months); £45/£90/£180 (for one year). The second and third prices are for the express visa services.

Validity: Business: Up to one year. Tourist: from one month to three months, or ten days if issued on arrival by air.

Note: For visas issued at the airport, the cost is as follows: Single-entry: approximately Ls15; Single-transit: approximately Ls8.

Application to: Consulate (or Consular section at Embassy); see Contact Addresses section.

Application requirements: (a) Valid passport. (b) One completed application form. (c) One passport-size photo. Nationals not listed under 1. above: (a)-(c) and, (d) A written invitation, which has to be signed and stamped by an officer of the Dept. of Citizenship and Immigration in Riga (see below for address). (e) Return or onward ticket. (f) Confirmed hotel reservation. (g) Funds of at least US$100 per day. Business: (a)-(c) and, (d) A letter from the sponsoring company or organisation in Latvia.

Note: All letters of invitation need to be stamped by the Department of Citizenship and Immigration, Raina bulvaris 5, Riga LV-1050 (tel: 721 9181; fax: 731 1211).

Working days required: One, two or five days, depending on fee paid.
