Accommodation

Many of the hotels were destroyed in the earthquake of 1972, although new hotels are gradually being opened in Managua. Several have been built along the highway that bypasses the old part of the city, but there is still a shortage. A 15 per cent tax is levied on all hotel bills. There are motels along the Pan-American Highway and modern resort hotels along the west coast, offering a good standard of accommodation. Grading: Hotels in Managua have been divided into three categories: upper, middle and lower, to provide an indication of price and standard.
