Accommodation

VisitScotland publishes a series of accommodation guides covering hotels and guest-houses, bed & breakfast, self-catering and camping and caravanning, for which there is a charge plus postage and packing.
There is a wide range of accommodation available in Scotland, comprising guest-houses, bed & breakfast establishments, hotels, international resort hotels, self-catering, campsites, serviced apartments, lodges, inns, restaurants with rooms and campus accommodation. Many hotels have been built, modernised or refurbished during the last few years, as well as the many guest-houses and bed & breakfast premises throughout the country. More than 500 hotels, guest-houses and bed & breakfast establishments are members of the ‘Walkers Welcome’ initiative and make special efforts to meet the needs of walkers.
Grading: VisitScotland has recently introduced a new star system to rate guest accommodation, replacing the Crown System. The ratings are as follows: 5 Stars: Exceptional, World-class; 4 Stars: Excellent; 3 Stars: Very Good; 2 Stars: Good; 1 Star: Fair and Acceptable. For a selection of some of the finest hotels in Scotland, visit the website: www.distinctionworld.com or for further information, contact VisitScotland (see Contact Addresses section).
